Legal Manager

About the role

The Legal Manager will independently oversee all legal affairs for a licensed Nigerian finance company and its micro‑lending business. The role ensures that daily operations comply with applicable laws, mitigates legal risk, and supports business growth through sound legal guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage legal affairs for the finance company, ensuring compliance with Nigerian laws and regulations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents; maintain a structured contract filing system.
• Oversee corporate governance, including custody of corporate records, licenses, and regulatory filings; organize Board and management meetings.
• Provide legal advice and risk assessments to operational teams, especially for micro‑finance activities.
• Monitor regulatory changes, identify risks, and recommend actions to senior management.
• Develop and improve internal legal policies and procedures.
• Coordinate relationships with external counsel and conduct in‑house legal training.
• Handle litigation, arbitration, and other disputes when required; support legal matters for affiliated entities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law; Bar admission in Nigeria preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of legal management experience in financial institutions, preferably with micro‑finance entities.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian financial laws, regulations, and judicial practices.
• Proven ability to manage complex legal matters independently and work in a multinational environment.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and coordination abilities.
