Legal Compliance Officer

About the role

The Legal Compliance Officer at JMG Limited ensures that the company operates in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, and industry standards. This role involves monitoring regulatory changes, conducting risk assessments, implementing compliance programs, and providing legal guidance to mitigate corporate exposure.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret local, state, and federal regulations affecting operations, including labor, tax, health & safety, environmental, and industry‑specific rules.
• Ensure timely filing of statutory returns and maintenance of business permits and licenses.
• Develop, review, and update internal compliance policies, codes of conduct, and SOPs; implement anti‑bribery, data‑privacy, whistleblower, and conflict‑of‑interest policies.
• Conduct regular compliance risk assessments and internal audits; recommend corrective actions.
• Organise compliance training sessions and promote a culture of integrity.
• Investigate alleged policy or legal violations and prepare periodic compliance reports for senior management.
• Review contracts, agreements, and third‑party engagements for legal compliance; oversee vendor due‑diligence.
• Support the legal team with regulatory inquiries, audits, and legal disputes.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognised university and admission to the Nigerian Bar.
• Master’s degree (LL.M.) in Corporate Law, Compliance or related field is an advantage.
• Professional compliance certification (e.g., CCP, CAMS, or IC‑SAN) highly desirable.
• 3–5 years post‑call experience in legal compliance, corporate law or regulatory affairs.
• Experience in engineering, construction, manufacturing or energy sectors is a strong plus.
• Proven track record dealing with regulatory bodies and filing statutory returns.
