Senior Legal Associate (Fintech/Payments)

About the role

Our client, a technology company focused on payments solutions for African businesses, is seeking a Senior Legal Associate. You will ensure that products and operations comply with legal, regulatory and ethical standards while supporting multiple business functions.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as merchant, partner, NDA and vendor contracts.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, clause libraries and playbooks to improve efficiency.
• Maintain organized, audit‑ready contract repositories and documentation systems.
• Support corporate governance, legal operations, litigation assistance and advisory services.
• Drive process improvements and scalable legal workflows in a high‑growth environment.
• Collaborate with fraud/disputes, HR, finance, sales, product, engineering and customer support teams.

Required profile

• Law degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Prior experience in financial services or fintech is a strong asset.
• Tech‑savvy, comfortable with Microsoft Office and legal technology tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Proven contract drafting, negotiation and interpretation abilities.
• Project‑management mindset with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Analytical, action‑oriented, good judgment in ambiguous situations.
• Positive, collaborative attitude and a sense of humor.
