Regional Operations Director, North-East Region

About the role

Airtel Africa is looking for a Regional Operations Director for the North-East Region. The ROD develops and directs all sales and distribution activities across the region's zones, ensuring revenue and customer market share targets are met through deep and wide distribution of all product offerings.

Key responsibilities

• Customer market share growth: plan and run actions for postpaid and prepaid business, including scheme planning, productivity, distribution expansion and competition monitoring
• Revenue market share growth: run revenue enhancement initiatives, drive outgoing usage and VAS, and focus on retaining high-value customers lost to competitors
• Customer service: deliver excellent service at all touchpoints, improve customer-facing processes and keep network KPIs at agreed levels
• Net revenue: improve own-base management to meet net revenue objectives
• Channel satisfaction: ensure channel partners earn good profits and work transparently with trade and customers
• Financial control: keep operating costs and bad debts under control so every spend delivers customer acquisition
• Team leadership: coach and train staff, reduce attrition, set performance expectations, recommend rewards and recognition, and manage change

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in social sciences; MBA preferred
• 12+ years of varied experience in sales and distribution, including about 5 years in telecoms
• Sound understanding of telecoms business, distribution models and route to market
• Ability to manage a large, geographically wide region and an outsourcing partner

Required skills

• Sales and distribution experience, combining FMCG and direct marketing
• Strong analytical and communication skills, able to lead cross-functional teams
• Planning and execution capability
