Health and Safety Environmental Officer

About the role

This role is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of occupational health and safety on site. Its main aim is to proactively manage risks through daily inspections, comprehensive training and strict adherence to both local Nigerian and international safety protocols. It plays a key part in preventing incidents and safeguarding the well-being of all personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out comprehensive daily safety audits to detect and mitigate hazards, including those related to scaffolding, excavation and working at heights.
• Facilitate mandatory pre-shift safety briefings and toolbox talks so every team member is informed and prepared.
• Enforce strict protocols on the use of PPE such as helmets, safety boots, high-visibility vests and gloves.
• Lead investigations into accidents or safety incidents and prepare detailed incident reports.
• Develop and maintain safety documentation, including risk assessments and job safety analyses (JSA).
• Oversee HSE records, work permits and the placement of safety signage across the facility.
• Ensure full compliance with applicable Nigerian and international safety regulations.
• Deliver targeted training sessions to new employees on safety procedures and protocols.
• Administer the first aid kit and coordinate emergency response procedures when needed.
