Head Technical Service

About the role

Estrada International Staffing Solutions is recruiting a Head Technical Service for an insurance business based in Lagos, Nigeria. The role sets the technical strategy, quality standards and risk controls across underwriting, claims and reinsurance, and reports to Executive Management and the Board.

Key responsibilities

• Formulate and execute the enterprise technical strategy, including underwriting philosophy, risk acceptance criteria, pricing governance and delegated authority limits.
• Monitor portfolio concentration, loss ratios and technical margins, and enforce technical auditing and risk evaluation across branches and head office.
• Establish the claims strategy and reserving framework, direct high-value or contested claims, and ensure efficient subrogation and salvage recoveries.
• Design and manage the annual treaty and facultative reinsurance placement, and act as technical liaison with reinsurers, rating agencies, brokers and loss adjusters.
• Maintain full compliance with NAICOM guidelines, statutory technical returns and solvency regulations.
• Produce technical performance reports, loss-ratio analytics and risk updates for the Board, auditors and regulators.
• Lead, mentor and build technical competency in the Underwriting, Claims and Reinsurance teams, including succession planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics or a related quantitative/commercial discipline.
• Master's degree (M.Sc.) or MBA required.
• Associate or Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (ACIIN / FCII) or equivalent international body.
• Experience of 6 years (72 months).

Required skills

• Corporate underwriting, complex claims control, actuarial principles, risk surveying and treaty/facultative reinsurance.
• Deep knowledge of NAICOM regulations, solvency frameworks and statutory reporting.
• Advanced financial modelling, loss analytics and portfolio risk management.
• Executive leadership, stakeholder engagement and strong written and verbal presentation skills.
