Communications Lead, Election-Integrity Initiative

About the role

An election-integrity initiative in Nigeria needs a Communications Lead for a 5-month contract. The role covers outreach to political parties, media relations, spokesperson support, social media and distribution, and standards and reporting, working alongside the co-conveners and their advisory board.

Key responsibilities

• Launch and party outreach: prepare the launch pack (pledge, plain-language guide and party pack), send identical invitation letters to every registered party on the same day, organise pre-briefings and follow up with party and candidate offices until the national and state agent deadlines.
• Media relations: build relationships with editors at major newspapers, TV and online outlets; secure TV and radio slots in English, Pidgin and Hausa; place op-eds and explainers; run embargoed press briefings; write and issue weekly tally releases and snapshot releases.
• Spokespeople: prepare co-conveners and lawyers for appearances with briefing notes and practice runs, and turn appearances into short clips and quotes.
• Social media and distribution: run the initiative's accounts, commission simple explainer content from content creators, share approved cards and explainers through WhatsApp groups, and coordinate translations into Pidgin, Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo.
• Standards and reporting: get every claim, letter, release and post approved by counsel within 24 hours on working days and 4 hours on election weekends, answer corrections and enquiries the same day, and send a one-page weekly report.

Required profile

• A minimum of 5 years of experience.
• A minimum of a degree in a related field.
