Communications Assistant

About the role

The Communications Assistant plays a key role in strengthening the organisation's external and internal messaging. The post centres on social media, press releases and beneficiary stories, while meeting donor visibility requirements. It is a full-time position based in Maiduguri.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee social media channels, write press releases and author stories about beneficiary experiences.
• Amplify humanitarian achievements to meet donor visibility and reporting standards.
• Create and run content calendars for digital platforms, and draft and edit newsletters, case studies, impact narratives, donor updates, fact sheets and website copy.
• Secure informed consent from beneficiaries for all media use and protect their dignity, safety and privacy.
• Ensure all materials, events and project sites follow donor branding, visibility, acknowledgment and marking rules.
• Build relationships with journalists and media outlets and support event coverage.
• Work with programme, MEAL and field teams to gather data, information and testimonials.
• Track social media engagement, audience reach and media coverage, and prepare regular analytics reports.
• Manage the central repository of approved communication assets, brand guidelines and templates.
• Support internal communications, advocacy and public awareness events, and carry out other delegated tasks.
