Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

About the role

The bank is looking for a Chief Financial Officer based in Lagos. The CFO oversees the capital structure by defining an optimal mix of debt, equity and internal financing, anticipates and controls financial risk through accurate financial information, and ensures the bank complies with the regulations applicable to the Nigerian mortgage industry.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the finance department strategy so it aligns with the bank's business goals and corporate strategy
• Identify risks and long-term financial implications of business initiatives and advise the Board and management committees
• Authorise expenditure and transactions within approved authority limits
• Coordinate the corporate budget and allocation of financial resources
• Manage the relationship with external auditors and regulators
• Implement cost management strategies across the bank
• Oversee data and information management, including information systems, business intelligence and data mining
• Lead the formulation of finance policies and regulations and ensure compliance
• Prepare periodic management reports for the Board and management, and review statutory returns to regulators and tax authorities
• Advise on accounting, tax and regulatory matters and on regulatory changes affecting the bank
• Network with peers internally and externally and act on behalf of the MD or Board when required

Required profile

• Hands-on experience in financial planning and analysis
• Advanced financial and accounting knowledge, including the Nigerian tax system and financial reporting standards
• Good understanding of the Nigerian mortgage sector and mortgage banking
• Strong business acumen, maturity and tact, with the ability to engage with top management of financial institutions
• Commitment to ethics and integrity, strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
• Leadership capabilities and good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to multitask and work under pressure
