Tax Officer

About the role

The Tax Officer will support the Finance team in ensuring accurate tax compliance and reporting for the organization, focusing on VAT, excise duty, and other statutory obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Review VAT computations, returns, and reconciliations for accuracy and compliance with Nigerian tax laws.
• Review monthly excise duty computations and reconcile them with production records and SAP data.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely excise duty reporting.
• Support preparation and filing of tax returns, payments, and other statutory compliance obligations.
• Perform tax reconciliations and investigate discrepancies between tax records, financial statements, and supporting documents.
• Assist with tax audits, authority enquiries, and regulatory compliance matters.
• Collaborate with Finance, Payroll, Procurement, and other departments to resolve tax‑related issues.
• Review financial transactions and invoices to ensure proper tax treatment.
• Support the Tax Manager with research, analysis, and special tax projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation or related field.
• 1–2 years of professional experience in taxation, accounting or auditing.
• Good knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, including CIT, VAT, WHT and excise duty.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet strict deadlines and work independently.
• Effective written and verbal communication, with strong stakeholder management skills.
