Operations Manager

About the role

SafeStart is seeking an Operations Manager to lead finance, procurement, supply chain, people operations and compliance for its Community-Based Chlorine Access programme in Nigeria. The role is remote, based in Nigeria or South Africa, and reports directly to the co‑founder.

Key responsibilities

• Run payments, reimbursements, per diems and field cash management; maintain books in Xero, produce monthly budget‑versus‑actual reports and cash forecasts.
• Manage chlorine procurement, deliveries, third‑party warehousing, asset register and event procurement.
• Handle contracts, onboarding, off‑boarding, payroll inputs and HR policies for staff and consultants.
• Track statutory filings in the US and Nigeria, maintain Microsoft 365/SharePoint structure, and keep policies and SOPs up to date.
• Provide executive support to co‑founders, including diary management, travel coordination and meeting preparation.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years experience in operations, finance or grants management, preferably in an NGO or donor‑funded programme.
• Hands‑on bookkeeping experience in Xero or similar and strong Excel skills for reconciliations, budgets and forecasts.
• Experience with procurement, supply or inventory management and ability to set up clean systems.
• Clear written English, highly organised, self‑motivated and reliable internet/power.
