Safeguarding & Child Protection Officer (Volunteer)

About the role

The Safeguarding & Child Protection Officer will act as the central point for safety, ethical compliance, and welfare of young girls participating in SHE‑SHINES initiatives. This volunteer role is ideal for a social work or social science professional seeking hands‑on experience in non‑profit governance and child protection.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, review and enforce child protection and safeguarding policies across all programmes.
• Conduct risk assessments for cohort activities, workshops and outreach events involving girls aged 6‑18.
• Serve as the confidential first point of contact for any child welfare concerns, safety breaches or incident reports.
• Facilitate mandatory safeguarding orientations and safety briefings for staff, mentors, volunteers and project leads.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records of safeguarding assessments and provide periodic welfare updates to leadership.

Required profile

• Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Sociology, Psychology or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of child rights, safeguarding principles, social work ethics and protection frameworks.
• Exceptional emotional intelligence, discretion, active listening and crisis‑response capability.
• Ability to dedicate 5‑10 hours per week to virtual meetings, cohort reviews and programme oversight.
