About the role
The company is a fast‑growing cross‑border payments fintech operating in Canada and Nigeria. It seeks a junior lawyer with roughly three years of experience to support the Compliance unit, drafting agreements and ensuring regulatory adherence.
Key responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as NDAs, partner, payout, vendor, technology, SLA and client terms.
- Prepare and maintain customer‑facing documents (terms & conditions, privacy notices, consent wording) in collaboration with Product and Engineering.
- Maintain a contract register, template library and track renewals, obligations and key dates.
- Identify legal and regulatory risks in agreements and escalate non‑standard terms.
- Review employee‑facing documents (employment contracts, handbook, code of conduct, HR policies) for compliance with Nigerian labour and data protection law.
- Support KYC/KYB, AML/CFT and sanctions programmes, monitor regulatory changes and prepare briefings.
- Assist with regulatory filings, licence applications and regulator responses.
- Conduct compliance monitoring, testing, incident handling and deliver awareness training.
- Support the Designate Compliance Professional certification under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
Required profile
- LL.B and call to the Nigerian Bar (B.L.).
- Approximately 3 years post‑qualification experience in legal or compliance roles, preferably in fintech, banking or payments.
- Proven experience drafting and reviewing commercial agreements.
- Designate Compliance Professional (DCP) certification or enrollment with a clear timeline to complete.
- Good knowledge of Nigerian data protection law, AML rules and financial services regulation.
- Ability to work independently in a fast‑moving, remote‑first environment.
Required skills
- Clear, precise legal writing and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage contract registers, version control and renewal tracking.
- Experience with KYC/KYB, AML/CFT processes and regulatory monitoring.
