Staff Research Engineer, Frontier AI, RL & Evaluation

About the role

Turing is hiring a Staff Research Engineer for frontier AI, reinforcement learning and evaluation, working remotely on a short-term contract of 10 to 40 hours per week. The role focuses on researching frontier AI systems and turning research into scalable applications.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on frontier AI systems and investigate their capabilities and limitations.
• Formulate research questions that inform the company's products and technical strategy.
• Develop research-grade datasets, experiments, prototypes and evaluation frameworks.
• Collaborate with teams to turn research findings into scalable applications.
• Share findings through technical reports, publications and conferences.

Required profile

• PhD or Master's degree in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong relevant experience with significant research engineering in machine learning or frontier AI systems.
• Demonstrated research experience in synthetic data generation, reinforcement learning or AI evaluation.

Required skills

• Strong foundations in machine learning, including designing experiments and training models.
• Strong programming in Python and experience with modern AI frameworks.
