Site Geologist – Construction Projects (Nigeria)

About the role

We are looking for a qualified Site Geologist to support our construction projects across Nigeria. The role involves conducting geological assessments, analysing subsurface conditions, and providing technical recommendations to ensure safe and efficient project execution.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out geological and geotechnical investigations, including soil and rock sampling, borehole logging, drilling supervision and field testing.
• Analyse subsurface data to identify construction risks and propose mitigation measures.
• Prepare geological logs, maps, cross‑sections and technical reports based on field and laboratory results.
• Collaborate with geotechnical and civil engineers on foundation design, slope stability and ground improvement solutions.
• Monitor ground conditions during excavation, piling and foundation works and document observations.
• Coordinate with laboratory teams to ensure accurate testing and interpretation of samples.
• Maintain comprehensive records of investigations, photographs and project documentation.
• Provide technical guidance on‑site to align engineering designs with actual ground conditions.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety and quality standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Geosciences, Earth Sciences or a related discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience in site geology, geotechnical investigations or construction projects.
• Membership with a professional body such as COMEG or NMGS is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of soil and rock classification, borehole logging and geological mapping techniques.
• Ability to work independently in challenging field environments and meet project deadlines.
