About the role
Victoria Manhattan Elevators is looking for an experienced Elevator Technician to lead installation, maintenance, repair and modernization of elevators and escalators across Nigeria. The role involves hands‑on work on both mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring safety and reliability for residential, commercial and industrial clients.
Key responsibilities
- Install, commission, maintain and repair elevators, escalators and related equipment in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory specifications.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults such as motors, gearboxes, sheaves, guide rails, door operators, hydraulic systems and ropes.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and electronic faults including control panels, PLCs, wiring, sensors, drives and safety circuits.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Lead or support modernization and retrofit projects, upgrading legacy systems to current standards.
- Respond promptly to breakdown calls and emergency callouts to minimise client downtime.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports and maintenance logs.
- Mentor junior technicians and coordinate spare parts with procurement.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree, HND or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of proven experience working on elevators and/or escalators covering installation, maintenance and repair.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (traction, hydraulic, gearboxes, motors, brakes, ropes, doors) and electrical systems (control panels, PLCs, VVVF drives, wiring, safety circuits).
- Familiarity with major elevator brands such as Otis, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi or Fujitec is an advantage.
- Understanding of elevator safety codes (EN 81, ASME A17.1 or local Nigerian codes).
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to work flexible hours including emergency callouts.
Required skills
- Mechanical troubleshooting of elevator components.
- Electrical and electronic troubleshooting, including PLC programming.
- Interpretation of technical drawings and schematics.
- Use of diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
