Senior Legal Associate (Fintech/Payments)

About the role

Our client, a fast‑growing technology company that enables African businesses to accept payments online and offline, is seeking a Senior Legal Associate to join its Legal team. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will ensure that products and operations comply with relevant laws, regulations and ethical standards while supporting cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation and interpretation of commercial agreements.
• Support corporate governance, legal operations and litigation matters.
• Provide regulatory and compliance advice across fraud, HR, finance, sales, product and engineering functions.
• Drive process improvements and implement scalable legal workflows using legal technology tools.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to mitigate legal risk and ensure timely delivery of legal services.

Required profile

• Law degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience, preferably in financial services or fintech.
• Proven ability to work independently in a high‑growth, dynamic environment.
• Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced contract drafting, negotiation and interpretation.
• Familiarity with legal technology platforms such as contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems and workflow automation tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
