Safety Manager (Pre-Opening Team)

About the role

The Safety Manager joins the pre-opening team at Hyatt Regency Lagos Ikeja, expected to open by the end of 2026. The role develops, implements and maintains all health, safety, fire and environmental programmes, ensuring compliance with local legislation, Hyatt brand standards and international safety best practices, and building a strong safety culture among colleagues, guests, contractors and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor workplace health and safety policies; ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and fire regulations
• Conduct regular safety inspections, audits and risk assessments across all departments, and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses
• Manage the Fire & Life Safety programme, including inspections of fire alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting and evacuation systems, fire drills and emergency response plans
• Deliver safety training (fire safety, first aid, emergency response, hazard identification) and promote safety awareness campaigns
• Identify hazards, perform risk assessments before special events and projects, and monitor contractor safety during renovations
• Lead investigations into accidents, injuries, security incidents and property damage, and follow up on corrective actions
• Support waste management, energy conservation and chemical handling, and liaise with Security, Engineering, Housekeeping, F&B, HR, government agencies and insurers

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Security Management or a related field
• Professional certification in Health and Safety (NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, HSE Level 3 or equivalent preferred)
• Minimum 5 years' experience in HSE management, preferably in hospitality, hotels or large service organisations
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian safety regulations and international safety standards
