Project Engineer

About the role

The Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, execution, administrative and financial oversight of assigned projects, running projects of appropriate size under the oversight of a Project Manager or Project Executive. The role acts as the company's liaison with clients and stakeholders and helps keep projects on time, on or below budget.

Key responsibilities

• Help the Project Manager and Superintendent follow administrative controls and prepare a project-specific work plan to deliver on time and on or below budget.
• Review information, flag issues early, and act as liaison with clients and stakeholders, preparing accurate meeting documentation.
• Monitor budgets, change orders and billings to support profitability objectives.
• Solve design, scope and field issues and hold the project team accountable for performance standards.
• Interpret scope of work, plans, specifications and addenda, develop project plans, phases and schedules, and document delays.
• Attend pre-construction, pre-install, scheduling, safety and progress meetings, and enforce site procedures and safety policies.
• Negotiate and issue subcontracts and purchase orders, review subcontractor and supplier invoices (including lien waivers), and help create the schedule of values and monthly progress payouts.
• Approve change orders, update the project budget, track variances and compile cost reports including cost to complete and outstanding payables.

• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and scope of work.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making and leadership skills, with personal accountability and customer focus.
• Ability to manage project resources and work independently with minimal supervision.
