Operations and Maintenance Engineer - Solar PV (Abuja)

About the role

A renewable energy company providing solar power solutions across urban and rural communities in Nigeria is hiring an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Engineer in Abuja. The role oversees the operations and maintenance of projects such as Mini-Grids and Commercial & Industrial systems, ensuring optimal performance, safety compliance and high reliability. You will also support leading a team of technicians and managing vendor collaborations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of power projects and monitor system performance, analysing data and troubleshooting faults to minimise downtime
• Develop and implement Maintenance Job Routines (MJRs) and work packets, and carry out routine inspections, testing and scheduled maintenance
• Maintain records of maintenance activities, spare parts inventory and equipment performance
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical and software issues, perform root cause analysis and implement improvement initiatives
• Carry out energy calculations, inspections and performance analysis, and prepare and execute performance improvement plans
• Ensure maintenance meets HSE requirements and complies with local, state and federal regulations, including NEC and OSHA standards, and close out safety hazards
• Collaborate with service contractors, supervise on-site inspections, repairs and specialised services, and prepare performance reports, incident records and maintenance documentation
• Evaluate operating and maintenance procedures and recommend improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in solar PV operations and maintenance
• COREN registered engineer (preferred)
• Relevant certifications such as Mini-Grid Design, SPVIS or NAPTIN
• Membership in professional associations such as NSE, NEMSA or NIPE
• Willingness to travel extensively to project sites
