Junior Consultant – Emergency Medicine

About the role

The Junior Consultant in Emergency Medicine will deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care to patients of all ages presenting with undifferentiated and critical illnesses. You will lead resuscitation teams, supervise junior staff, and help optimise patient flow in a busy Emergency Department.

Key responsibilities

• Lead initial assessment, stabilization and management of critically ill or injured patients, including trauma, cardiac arrest, respiratory failure and severe sepsis.
• Perform and interpret point‑of‑care ultrasound, ECGs and arterial blood gases to guide immediate clinical decisions.
• Carry out life‑saving procedures independently such as airway management, central and arterial line insertion, chest‑tube thoracostomy and fracture reduction.
• Supervise and teach Medical Officers and nursing staff, coordinate patient flow and ensure effective communication within the ED team.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives, clinical audits and development of ED protocols.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS/MD) and accredited Emergency Medicine residency with board certification.
• 1–4 years post‑fellowship experience in emergency medicine.
• Current ACLS, ATLS, PALS and BLS certifications.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities for supervising junior staff.

Required skills

• Point‑of‑care ultrasound (POCUS) proficiency.
• ECG interpretation and arterial blood gas analysis.
• Airway management including intubation and surgical airway.
• Central and arterial line insertion.
• Chest‑tube thoracostomy and fracture/dislocation reduction.
