High Voltage GIS Protection and Control Engineer

About the role

The High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Protection and Control Engineer will design, configure, test and maintain protection and control systems for GIS installations at our Lagos, Nigeria site. This full‑time, on‑site position supports the reliable operation of high‑voltage equipment across our power generation and transmission assets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop relay settings, coordination studies and control logic for GIS protection schemes.
• Review engineering drawings and produce technical documentation.
• Supervise installation, commissioning and testing of protection and control equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot protection circuits and control systems.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance and project teams to resolve technical issues and optimise system performance.
• Support incident investigations, implement corrective actions and drive continuous improvement of engineering practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; professional registration is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of high‑voltage GIS equipment, substation design and power system protection fundamentals.
• Relevant experience in power generation or transmission substations, especially with gas‑insulated switchgear.
• Commitment to safety, quality and continuous learning.
• Willingness to work on‑site full‑time in Lagos, Nigeria.

Required skills

• Protection relay configuration and coordination studies.
• Fault analysis and control logic development (including SCADA and automation interfaces).
• Testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of protection and control systems.
• Use of test instruments and protection‑system software tools.
• Familiarity with international and local electrical standards, grid codes and safety regulations.
