Hardware & Software Support Technician

About the role

The Hardware & Software Support Technician preserves the operational continuity of an organization's digital ecosystem, covering computer systems, networks and applications. This entry-level role suits motivated, detail-focused people with basic technical skills who want to help with hardware diagnostics, OS deployment, software setup and routine maintenance for staff and clients. The postholder works under guidance to keep system interruptions to a minimum.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, configure and validate workstations, laptops, printers, scanners and peripherals.
• Identify hardware failures, swap components such as memory modules, storage drives and power units, and arrange repairs.
• Deploy, configure and maintain operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and tools such as Microsoft Office, antivirus and collaboration platforms.
• Fix software glitches, manage licensing issues and apply security patches and updates.
• Support wired and wireless LAN configuration, including routers, switches and networked printers, and resolve connectivity problems and IP errors.
• Act as the main point of contact for technical queries, recording requests and escalating complex or recurring issues to senior engineers or leadership.
• Facilitate data backups, migrations and file recovery, and verify that antivirus and endpoint security are active and up to date.
