General Accounting and Treasury Manager

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking Nigerian nationals for its General Accounting and Treasury Manager position at its headquarters in Ibadan. The role covers general accounting, financial control, month-end close, treasury and cash management, financial reporting, audit coordination and financial systems. It is a 3-year renewable contract.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee general accounting operations, including month-end close, journal reviews, accruals, provisions and balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure accurate accounting of payables, receivables, payroll, assets and liabilities.
• Strengthen accounting policies, procedures and controls, and drive corrective action on identified weaknesses.
• Lead day-to-day treasury and cash management, prepare weekly cash position and cash-flow forecasts, monitor liquidity across IITA hubs and stations, and manage bank accounts, bank charges and bank reconciliations.
• Support the Chief Financial Officer (CFRO) in managing the investment portfolio, monitoring foreign exchange exposure and overseeing payment processes, segregation of duties and petty cash controls.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and statements, provide financial analysis to management and the Board, and contribute to financial dashboards.
• Coordinate relationships with internal and external auditors, implement audit recommendations, and ensure compliance with accounting standards, donor requirements and statutory obligations.
• Ensure data integrity in the ERP and related financial systems, work with IT to improve Oracle and financial processes, and lead the General Accounting and Treasury team while advising Finance Managers elsewhere.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field, with at least 12 years of relevant experience, including at least 6 years in a management or supervisory role.
• A professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, ACA or equivalent, with significant post-qualification experience in accounting, treasury and financial management.
• Demonstrated experience managing accounting operations, liquidity, cash-flow forecasting, banking, investments and financial risks in large, multi-location organizations, preferably in international development, research or donor-funded settings.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting, period-end closing, reconciliations, internal controls and audit management.
• Understanding of donor-funded financial management and compliance, and ability to handle competing priorities in a complex international environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ERP systems, preferably Oracle or equivalent.
• Advanced Excel and financial reporting tools.
• Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
