Finance and Accounts Manager

About the role

VerdaPrim is building the African commercial operations of an industrial materials supply partnership, supplying African manufacturers with dependable materials and responsive commercial support. It is recruiting a Finance and Accounts Officer to own the finances of the whole business, reporting to the Director, Nigeria and working closely with the Import and Logistics Lead.

Key responsibilities

• Keep the books in one accounting system, prepare monthly management accounts, a rolling cash flow forecast and a one-page summary for leadership
• Run monthly payroll including PAYE, pension and statutory deductions, and file VAT and withholding tax returns on time
• Invoice consulting and training clients, track receivables and chase overdue balances
• Support the annual audit and work with external accountants on company income tax
• Lodge Form M with the bank, buy foreign exchange per shipment and remit supplier payments on agreed dates
• Reconcile supplier invoices monthly and manage bank relationships for trade lines, letters of credit and FX
• Issue invoices and receipts, record customer deposits and release or deliver goods only against cleared funds
• Compute and pay customs duty, import VAT and port charges, and recover import VAT against VAT on sales
• Produce a landed cost and gross margin statement for every container within five working days and run the monthly repricing against the naira

Required profile

• At least four years running the accounts of a Nigerian business end to end, including books, payroll, VAT and withholding tax, management accounts and audit support
• Hands-on experience in an importing or trading business: Form M, FX purchase, supplier remittances and duty computation
• Experience managing customer deposits and receivables in a cash-sensitive business
• Record of producing accurate monthly accounts and payroll on time
• Desirable: ICAN or ACCA qualification, or well advanced towards one; experience securing bank trade finance or supplier credit; exposure to inventory accounting for bagged or bulk goods
