About the role
The Field Communications Manager (FCM) will be based in Abuja and work within MSF’s operational communications department in Nigeria. The role supports the organisation’s medical‑humanitarian mission by defining, overseeing and implementing communications strategies that raise public awareness, attract support and bear witness to crises.
Key responsibilities
- Define and manage country‑wide communications strategies in collaboration with Heads of Mission, Communications Advisors and the Field Communications Coordinator.
- Monitor unfolding situations in MSF project areas and alert the team when public communication is required.
- Identify under‑reported crises and advise on messaging and public positioning, coordinating with humanitarian affairs managers as needed.
- Develop and update the Country Communications Framework, outlining operational communication priorities.
- Create guidelines for crisis communications management and ensure timely delivery of guidance and content during emergencies.
- Manage the press officer, social media officer and multimedia officer, and act as backup for team members.
Required profile
- Ability to respond quickly to operational needs, emergencies and crisis situations with effective prioritisation.
- Experience collaborating with senior mission staff and humanitarian affairs managers.
- Strong commitment to MSF’s values of independence, neutrality and impartiality.
- Willingness to work in a diverse, high‑pressure environment; women are highly encouraged to apply.
