Director of Finance (Senior Leadership)

About the role

Wellington College International Lagos is seeking a Director of Finance to provide strategic financial leadership and oversight. Reporting directly to the Headmaster and working closely with the Board of Governors, the role is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team responsible for the school’s financial health and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the Head of School and Board to develop long‑term financial strategies supporting the school’s vision and expansion.
• Lead the annual budgeting process, produce forecasts, cash‑flow projections and scenario modelling.
• Oversee capital expenditure projects, including campus development and technology investments.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts for the Board and executive leadership.
• Act as primary liaison for external and internal auditors and ensure compliance with statutory reporting, tax regulations and international accounting standards.
• Design and monitor internal financial policies, procedures and controls to safeguard assets.
• Manage tuition fee billing, collection, debt recovery and commercial contract negotiations with vendors.
• Identify and develop alternative revenue streams such as facility rentals and sponsorships.
• Maintain the school’s risk register, oversee insurance coverage and supervise payroll and expatriate benefits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related discipline.
• Relevant professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA) is desirable.
• Proven experience in senior financial management within a complex organization.
• Demonstrated ability to work with senior leadership and governing boards.
