Credit and Loan Recovery Officer

About the role

The Credit and Loan Recovery Officer will manage the bank's delinquent loan portfolio, recover outstanding debts, and support the credit team in loan monitoring and portfolio quality management. This position combines field‑based recovery activities with credit administration to minimise Portfolio at Risk and Non‑Performing Loans in line with CBN regulations and the bank's ethical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and contact customers with overdue payments through calls, SMS, emails, demand letters and in‑person visits, negotiating repayment plans.
• Develop and implement case‑by‑case recovery strategies, including field visits, skip tracing, and coordination with external solicitors, bailiffs and legal actions.
• Review credit files, monitor loan portfolios, detect early warning signals and take proactive corrective actions.
• Conduct loan verification, ensure accurate documentation and flag fraudulent or inconsistent information.
• Prepare regular reports on recovery performance, delinquency trends and risk exposure, maintaining detailed records in the loan management system.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Finance, Banking, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Law or related field (MCP qualification advantageous).
• 1–3 years experience in debt collection, loan recovery, credit administration or micro‑finance operations.
• Excellent negotiation, persuasion and interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication.
• Ability to handle sensitive financial data securely and ethically.
