Central Sterilising Supplies Technician

About the role

The Central Sterilising Supplies Department (CSSD) Technician is responsible for decontaminating, sterilising and preparing medical instruments used in cardiovascular and theatre procedures, ensuring they meet the highest standards of hygiene, safety and functionality.

Key responsibilities

• Perform thorough cleaning, decontamination and sterilisation of surgical instruments using autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners while following strict infection‑control protocols.
• Inspect instruments for damage before and after each cycle and assemble complete surgical trays for specific procedures.
• Maintain accurate inventory records, restock supplies and deliver sterile instruments promptly to operating theatres.
• Conduct daily performance checks, periodic testing and routine quality‑control inspections of sterilisation equipment.
• Document all processes, logs and audit records to demonstrate compliance with international standards and organisational policies.
• Perform regular cleaning, maintenance and calibration of CSSD machinery and report any technical issues immediately.
• Train junior staff on sterilisation techniques, equipment handling and safety procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and mandatory training in infection prevention and sterilisation techniques.
• Knowledge of infection‑control standards, healthcare regulations and CSSD equipment maintenance practices.
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities with keen attention to detail.
