Brewing Area Manager

About the role

The Brewing Area Manager leads and manages area teams to deliver sound operational and technical practices in the brewing department, based on prescribed VPO practices. The manager must meet the production plan while keeping control of budgeted KPIs and the variable and fixed costs controllable within the team.

Key responsibilities

• Promote beer brewing quality excellence across the value chain and communicate brewing process and product quality information and standards, including changes to them
• Lead problem-solving and decision-making, involving the right people from brewing management and operations teams, and verify that corrective actions resolve problems
• Audit area standards for quality, process and work practices, and support all seven VPO pillar standards
• Manage health, safety and risk for the area teams
• Control productivity, minimise waste and manage fixed and variable costs, including by-products
• Ensure conformance to production plans, specifications and standards, and maintain maintenance and engineering integrity
• Support process optimisation, trials, VA and CAPEX projects, and ensure adherence to environmental and quality standards
• Ensure compliance with system processes such as MES, PTS, eQMS and PaQT
• Manage people: apply performance management, develop employees, maintain industrial relations, provide training on technical and VPO standards and drive high-performance autonomous teams without shift supervision

Required profile

• BSc degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Completed brewing traineeship; IBD papers 1, 2 and 3 passed
• At least 2 years of production experience, including 1 year at a management level within Brewing
• Demonstrated experience driving commercial decisions in a brewery (financial, operational, people) and brewing technical expertise
• Good performance track record with a disciplined work ethic and passion for quality
• Master Brewer IBD qualification obtained, studying towards MB qualification
