Associate, Finance Operations
Charles Ardor & Company Limited · Abuja
Job description
About the role
CA is hiring an Associate, Finance Operations in Abuja (hybrid, normally two days a week in the office, with occasional extra attendance for meetings and assessments). You will lead the work on several clients at once, often in different sectors, and act as their day-to-day contact at CA. Your work runs to firm monthly deadlines, and month-end is demanding. The role reports to a Supervisor, whose monthly report is written before anything goes to the client's management.
Key responsibilities
- Lead clients day to day: be their main contact, work through issues with their finance team each week, answer messages within one working day and raise problems proactively.
- Review bookkeeping, reconciliations, payroll and tax returns, and send back clear corrections.
- Check financial controls, such as approvals and separation of duties, and follow weaknesses through until fixed.
- Own each client's month-end close, ensuring accounts are reconciled to evidence and the month is complete and in the right period.
- Prepare management accounts, budget comparisons and explanations of movements, and a one-page monthly summary for the Supervisor.
- Update 13-week cash forecasts, build annual budgets with the client and prepare analysis for decisions.
- Support finance function reviews, improvement projects and funding or investment work, and develop the Analysts by explaining what was wrong and why.
- Plan across around three ongoing financial management clients or seven bookkeeping clients, flagging deadlines at risk early.
Required profile
- 3-5 years of hands-on accounting experience, including month-end close, reconciliations, payroll and tax; experience reviewing others' work is an advantage.
- Professional exams: fully qualified ICAN, ACA or ACCA members preferred; at minimum ICAN Skills or ACCA Applied Skills completed with no more than two papers left.
- Experience in a multi-client environment (accounting, audit or outsourcing firm) is strongly preferred.
- Experience preparing management accounts, budgets and cash forecasts, and an understanding of financial controls.
- Already living in or around Abuja, with your own working laptop and smartphone; relocation is not supported.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of PAYE, VAT, withholding tax and company income tax under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.
- Strong Excel skills and solid working knowledge of accounting software; Zoho Books experience is an advantage.
- Clear, professional communication with clients' finance teams and owners, and the ability to manage several deadlines.
What we offer
- Hybrid working, normally two days a week in the Abuja office.
- HMO health coverage and paid annual leave.
Candidates apply online with their CV and answers to the application questions; shortlisted applicants attend an assessment in Abuja followed by an interview.
