Senior Manager - Transaction Operations

About the role

The Senior Manager - Transaction Operations role maintains transaction integrity, manages settlement and reconciliation exceptions, oversees disputes and chargebacks and strengthens operational controls. It supports the Head, Banking Operations in keeping transaction operations resilient, scalable and efficient, aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day delivery of transaction processing and monitoring across payment channels, ensuring accuracy, security and agreed service levels.
• Oversee settlement and reconciliation with NIBSS, partner banks, switches and other payment ecosystem partners, resolving exceptions promptly.
• Monitor transaction performance and coordinate investigation and resolution of failed, pending, reversed and irregular transactions, including recurring issues.
• Manage disputes, reversals, refunds and chargebacks within regulatory, scheme and internal timelines.
• Maintain operational controls and identify control gaps and potential financial or operational risks.
• Ensure compliance with CBN requirements, payment scheme rules, internal policies and procedures, and support regulatory, audit and risk management needs.
• Drive continuous improvement and automation to reduce manual intervention, errors and turnaround times.
• Partner with Technology, Finance, Treasury, Risk, Compliance, Fraud Management and Customer Experience teams on operational issues and new products.
• Monitor performance through reports, dashboards and service metrics, escalating incidents and risks as needed.
• Lead, coach and develop the Transaction Operations team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Banking, Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline; a postgraduate degree is an advantage.
• Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, ACIB, CISA, CRISC, Six Sigma or PMP is an advantage.
• Minimum 10-13 years in transaction processing, payment operations, banking operations, settlement and reconciliation or digital financial services, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
• Experience in fintech or banking preferred; good understanding of the financial services regulatory environment.
• Demonstrable experience managing high-volume transaction operations and working with payment switches, partner banks and the payments ecosystem.
