Team Lead, Transaction Monitoring

About the role

The Transaction Monitoring Team Lead will head the monitoring function, overseeing alert review, investigation and escalation to ensure compliance with Nigerian Central Bank AML/CFT/CPF regulations and NFIU guidelines. The role combines operational leadership with strategic risk management to protect the institution from financial crime.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate Transaction Monitoring Analysts, allocate workload and ensure adherence to SLA, quality and productivity standards.
• Review complex and high‑risk alerts, validate investigations and approve escalations for STR filing in line with NFIU requirements.
• Oversee end‑to‑end monitoring processes, ensuring effective alert generation, review and disposition.
• Ensure compliance with CBN AML/CFT/CPF regulations, BOFIA and NFIU reporting obligations; oversee timely reporting.
• Monitor investigation quality and documentation, conducting reviews for consistency and accuracy.
• Identify emerging financial‑crime trends, typologies and systemic risks, recommending mitigation strategies.
• Liaise with Compliance, Audit, Business Units and senior stakeholders; manage escalations and reporting requirements.
• Track team performance and prepare management reports on alerts, trends and risk exposures.
• Identify process gaps and drive automation, system optimisation and operational‑efficiency initiatives.
• Lead audit engagements, ensure audit readiness and respond to regulatory inquiries.
• Coach, mentor and develop team members, supporting capability building and knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Law or a related field.
• 6‑10 years of AML/Transaction Monitoring experience with demonstrated leadership exposure.
• Relevant certifications such as ACAMS, ICA or CFE.
• Experience in a Tier‑1 or multinational bank, including regulatory engagements and advanced monitoring systems.
