Senior Accountant (Travel Industry)

About the role

The Senior Accountant will lead the accounting function for a travel‑focused company, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with industry‑specific regulations. Reporting to the CFO, the role combines traditional finance duties with specialised travel‑industry processes.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, general ledger, and preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Reconcile bank, vendor, customer and inter‑company accounts; monitor cash flow, working capital and liquidity.
• Manage payroll accounting, expense control and fixed‑asset tracking.
• Perform IATA BSP reconciliations, airline remittance processing and GDS (Amadeus, Sabre, Galileo) sales report matching.
• Handle ticket sales, refunds, commissions, foreign‑currency transactions and ancillary service accounting.
• Ensure compliance with CAMA, IFRS and Nigerian tax laws; file VAT, WHT, CIT, PAYE and other statutory returns.
• Coordinate external audits and strengthen internal controls to prevent revenue leakage.
• Lead, mentor and evaluate the accounts team, setting KPIs and ensuring proper documentation.
• Support the CFO in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and profitability assessment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• ICAN or ACCA certification (mandatory).
• Minimum 7 years of accounting experience within the travel industry.
• Proven ability to manage complex travel‑related financial transactions and lead a finance team.
