Non-Executive Director – Human Resources

About the role

The client seeks an accomplished Non-Executive Director – Human Resources to provide independent oversight and strategic guidance on the organization’s people agenda, ensuring alignment with long‑term growth, governance and value creation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent oversight and strategic direction on all human capital and organisational development matters, contributing to Board discussions and long‑term planning.
• Oversee executive remuneration frameworks, ensuring competitiveness, fairness, transparency and alignment with performance.
• Lead succession planning for Board members, executive leadership and critical functions, and guide leadership development programmes.
• Review talent acquisition, employee engagement, workforce planning and retention strategies, and monitor organisational design initiatives.
• Champion a high‑performance culture, overseeing diversity, equity, inclusion and employee well‑being initiatives.
• Manage people‑related risks, ensure compliance with labour laws, corporate governance codes and employment regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum 20 years progressive HR leadership experience with executive and board‑level exposure.
• Previous Board or Board Committee experience, preferably in remuneration and HR committees.
• Strong understanding of executive compensation, succession planning, talent management, organisational design and corporate governance.
• Deep knowledge of Nigerian labour legislation and HR regulatory requirements.

Required skills

• Professional HR certifications such as CIPM, SHRM‑SCP, SPHR, HRCI or CIPD.
• Corporate governance certification (preferred).
