Deputy Country Director for Programs (Abuja)

About the role

The Deputy Country Director for Programs will lead the program coordination team in Nigeria, overseeing WASH, Food Security & Livelihoods, and Shelter activities. Reporting to the Country Director, the role ensures strategic programming, quality, and accountability across volatile regions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership for strategic program development, ensuring interventions are evidence‑based, conflict‑sensitive and adaptable.
• Supervise technical coordinators (FSL, WASH, MEAL) and collaborate with Grants & Partnership, Field Coordinators and Project Managers.
• Monitor program implementation against deadlines, quality standards and donor requirements (CASH SOP, RRM, etc.).
• Support the 2027‑2029 programmatic strategy, conduct needs assessments and define intervention logics.
• Manage partnerships, capacity‑building plans and ensure compliance with security protocols.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Humanitarian Affairs, International Affairs or related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 3‑4 years in a senior program management role.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Extensive knowledge of project cycle management and monitoring tools.
• Operational monitoring and improvement of program delivery in insecure, remote areas.
• Understanding of cross‑cutting issues such as gender, protection, environment & climate change adaptation.

What we offer

• Gross salary starting from EUR 3,080 per month (base + 10% annual leave allowance).
• Monthly per diem of USD 750 and accommodation covered.
• Travel expenses between home country and assignment location.
• Regular breaks: 7 working days off every three months with a USD 850 allowance, plus one additional rest day per month.
