HR Officer

About the role

The HR Officer will support the smooth operation of Wellington College International Lagos' HR function, working closely with the Head of HR and the wider school community. This role covers the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment to employee relations and HR administration.

Key responsibilities

• Support recruitment from requisition approval to appointment, including job ads, candidate communication, interviews, assessments and pre‑employment checks.
• Coordinate onboarding and induction, prepare documentation, manage probation, promotions, transfers and exits, and maintain accurate lifecycle records.
• Maintain electronic and physical employee records, HR databases, trackers and produce HR letters, certificates and other documentation.
• Assist with performance management processes, probation and appraisal tracking, and support managers in completing reviews.
• Support staff orientation, training, safeguarding and professional development, keeping accurate CPD records.
• Promote employee engagement and wellbeing through events, internal communications and positive employee relations.

Required profile

• A good degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Management or a related field.
• 5–7 years of experience as an HR Officer, HR Administrator, HR Coordinator or similar role.
• Experience in recruitment, onboarding and HR operations; experience in an educational setting is preferred.
• Membership or progress towards membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) is desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Strong organisational, administrative and attention‑to‑detail abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship‑building and confidentiality skills.
