Head of Power Plant

About the role

The Head of Power Plant will lead the captive power generation and energy management function at Dangote Cement's plant, ensuring a reliable, cost‑effective, and efficient power supply that supports continuous cement production. The role combines operational excellence, sustainability, and strict compliance with corporate standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee operations of coal‑ and gas‑based captive power plants and waste heat recovery systems to guarantee uninterrupted power to kilns, mills and auxiliary equipment.
• Drive preventive, predictive and shutdown maintenance programmes for boilers, turbines, generators and balance‑of‑plant assets.
• Lead root‑cause analysis of breakdowns and implement corrective actions to maximise equipment availability.
• Optimize specific power consumption, heat rate and overall thermal efficiency through plant‑wide energy initiatives.
• Manage generation cost, fuel mix (coal, LPFO, gas, alternative fuels) and support budgeting, forecasting and cost‑control activities.
• Champion Zero Harm safety culture, ensure compliance with Nigerian regulations and Dangote HSE policies, and lead emissions and environmental control measures.
• Lead power plant expansion, upgrade projects, digital transformation and carbon‑reduction programmes.
• Build and mentor a high‑performance engineering and operations team while coordinating with production, central engineering and corporate energy functions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; COREN registration preferred.
• 15–20 years of experience in power generation or cement manufacturing, with at least 5–8 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven track record managing captive power plants, waste heat recovery systems and large‑scale continuous process industries.
• Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder management and crisis handling abilities.
