About the role
The BBC World Service is launching a new Nigeria Language Services Unit that brings together BBC Pidgin, Yoruba and Igbo under one editorial structure. As a Digital Content Producer/Reporter you will help shape this digital‑first, video‑led operation, creating compelling visual news for smartphone‑focused audiences across West Africa and the diaspora.
Key responsibilities
- Identify under‑reported stories, build source networks and secure exclusive content.
- Plan, film, edit and script visual stories from newsgathering through to final production.
- Produce content for multiple digital platforms, adapting formats to audience behaviour and platform trends.
- Experiment with new video formats and storytelling techniques to stay ahead of competitors.
- Maintain BBC editorial standards, manage risk and ensure high‑quality output under tight deadlines.
- Collaborate with editors, designers and digital teams to improve workflows and raise overall production standards.
Required profile
- Strong journalistic instincts with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent visual storytelling sense and a proactive approach to sourcing stories.
- Ability to make editorial decisions on story direction, treatment and prioritisation.
- Commitment to BBC values and high editorial integrity.
