Assistant General Manager, Process Engineering

About the role

Dangote Industries Limited is looking for an Assistant General Manager, Process Engineering for its Operations & Maintenance (Production) department in Lagos. The role provides technical and operational leadership for optimising cement manufacturing processes, from raw material crushing and preparation through raw milling, pyroprocessing, clinker production, cement grinding and related material-handling operations. It aims to improve process stability, plant throughput, product quality, energy efficiency and cost performance while complying with approved operating procedures, health and safety requirements, environmental standards and manufacturing objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor crushing, raw milling, coal milling, kiln and cooler operations, clinker handling and cement grinding, and lead process optimisation initiatives
• Set optimum operating parameters for major plant equipment, conduct process audits, heat and material balance studies and performance benchmarking
• Support production planning, maximise equipment availability and output, and coordinate process interventions after breakdowns or shutdowns
• Provide technical support during plant start-ups, shutdowns and emergencies, and take part in daily production reviews
• Monitor heat and electrical energy consumption, analyse fuel, power and grinding media costs, and support fuel mix optimisation
• Reduce process waste and cost per tonne, prepare process-related budgets with Finance and justify investments technically
• Work with Quality Control to maintain stable raw meal, clinker and cement quality, investigate quality deviations and take part in product trials

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical discipline; postgraduate or professional qualification is an added advantage
• At least 15 years of relevant work experience
• Strong people management, leadership, problem-solving, analytical, relationship management and communication skills
• Supervisory, coaching and mentoring abilities, ability to manage multiple priorities and attention to detail

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of cement production processes and strong knowledge of the local and international cement industry
• Knowledge of product quality parameters and quality control
• Good knowledge of cement manufacturing equipment and their functions
