Area Technical Officer

About the role

Airtel Africa is looking for an Area Technical Officer to coordinate, control, manage, support and track day‑to‑day network operations across its zones. The role ensures optimal network availability, coverage and quality while supporting sales and marketing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all zonal network operations and maintenance strategic partners (SPS) to deliver optimal availability and QoS.
• Interface with internal and external stakeholders, especially commercial teams, to resolve customer issues within KPI targets.
• Track special events calendar with ZBM and marketing to ensure best‑in‑class service delivery.
• Monitor zonal network performance across KPIs and availability metrics.
• Support periodic audits of transmission, core and radio networks and preventive‑maintenance schedules.
• Execute special tasks or projects required by HQ Technical within the zone.
• Collaborate with the E//MS team to develop processes that reduce network failures.
• Ensure colo partners meet agreed SLAs and manage SAQ activities, rental renewals and lease payments.
• Follow up on issues affecting radio network availability, quality and customer experience.
• Advise on preventive measures by partners to improve network performance and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Audit and support zonal spares management to maintain critical and non‑critical spares.
• Analyze weekly complaint trends to improve customer experience.
• Ensure power availability for all IBS sites not transferred to tower companies.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing network operations and maintenance.
• Strong ability to coordinate with internal teams and external partners.
• Excellent analytical skills for monitoring KPIs and trend analysis.
