Electrical Engineer

About the role

The company seeks a senior Electrical Engineer to act as the technical authority for all electrical systems across its mining and energy operations. The role involves design, governance, safety oversight and coordination with multidisciplinary teams on on‑shore and offshore projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assurance and governance for electrical systems, reviewing and approving engineering deliverables.
• Lead electrical design for power generation, distribution, motor control and protection, producing specifications, datasheets and drawings.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NEC, Nigerian standards and hazardous‑area classifications (ATEX/IECEx).
• Support audits, incident investigations, management‑of‑change processes and conduct electrical safety risk assessments.
• Manage electrical scope through FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning and start‑up, supervising contractors and ensuring quality control.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, NSE membership and COREN registration.
• Minimum 8 years of electrical engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably with offshore platforms or FPSOs.
• Proven ability to work in multi‑ethnic, multidisciplinary environments with strong leadership and communication skills.
• Willingness to work in challenging environments and travel to offshore or remote sites.

Required skills

• Power systems design, switchgear, transformers, VFDs, UPS and generators.
• Electrical safety, arc‑flash protection, lockout/tagout and hazardous‑area classification (ATEX/IECEx).
• Standards compliance: IEC, IEEE, NEC, NESIS, DPR, NMDPRA.
• FEED, detailed design, commissioning, and start‑up coordination.
• Hazard and risk assessment tools such as HAZOP and SAFOP.
