Volunteer Safeguarding & Child Protection Officer

About the role
The Safeguarding & Child Protection Officer will act as the central point for safety and ethical compliance within SHE‑SHINES INITIATIVE. This volunteer position is ideal for a social work or social science professional who wants to protect the welfare of girls aged 6‑18 while gaining hands‑on experience in non‑profit governance.
Key responsibilities
- Implement, review and enforce child protection and safeguarding policies across all programmes.
- Conduct risk assessments for workshops, cohort activities and outreach events.
- Serve as the confidential first point of contact for any child welfare concerns or safety incidents.
- Deliver mandatory safeguarding orientations and safety briefings for staff, mentors, volunteers and project leads.
- Maintain confidential records of assessments and provide regular welfare updates to senior leadership.
Required profile
- Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Sociology, Psychology or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of child rights, safeguarding principles and protection frameworks.
- High emotional intelligence, discretion, active listening and crisis‑response capability.
- Commitment to allocate 5‑10 hours per week for virtual meetings and programme oversight.
