About the role
The Mechanical Supervisor will lead and coordinate mechanical repair activities on vessels during dry‑docking and afloat technical shutdowns. This field‑based position ensures that propulsion, hydraulic and general mechanical systems are maintained to the highest safety and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, organise and supervise propulsion line and general mechanical works on board.
- Ensure technical coordination and strict compliance with safety procedures.
- Supervise mechanical activities during both afloat and dry‑dock maintenance periods.
- Conduct end‑of‑shift inspections, safety checks and personnel clearance.
- Verify availability, proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Guarantee work quality, deadlines and safety standards for all supervised tasks.
- Prepare compliance, traceability and quality documentation, including technical intervention reports.
- Use standard metrology equipment such as calipers, depth gauges, vernier and internal micrometers, and dial indicators.
- Participate in schedule preparation and work planning.
- Define and deliver training actions for mechanics and machinists.
Required profile
- Fluent French (plus) and mandatory technical English proficiency.
- Technical degree or equivalent in mechanical, marine or industrial engineering.
- Proven experience supervising mechanical operations in a naval or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of marine propulsion systems, hydraulic equipment, and shaft alignment.
- Ability to read supplier manuals, technical documentation and mechanical drawings.
- Leadership skills with experience training technical teams.
Required skills
- Marine propulsion maintenance (propeller shafts, bow thrusters, reduction gearboxes).
- Hydraulic system repair and maintenance (winches, capstans).
- Shaft alignment for engines, gearboxes and pumps.
- Use of metrology tools: calipers, depth gauges, vernier micrometers, internal micrometers, dial indicators.
- Interpretation of technical drawings and work instructions.
- Identification of manpower, equipment and material requirements for project quotations.
