Senior Public Sector Economist

About the role

The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund is seeking a Senior Public Sector Economist to lead its Economic Intelligence Unit. The role will provide insight into Lagos’s socio‑economic landscape, especially the emerging tech ecosystem, and support evidence‑based job‑creation policies.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse the state economy, covering productivity, sectoral growth, household consumption, investment opportunities and employment trends.
• Develop and maintain economic models and forecasts for core indicators and assess policy impacts on job‑creating sectors, including technology.
• Produce periodic policy reports and dashboards to inform the Governor, Commissioner of Economic Planning and Budget and other stakeholders.
• Research economic challenges and recommend solutions for growth and employment‑creating sectors.
• Collaborate with LSETF and other ministries to design and implement job‑creation strategies.

Required profile

• First degree (minimum Second Class) in Economics or a related field; postgraduate degree is an advantage.
• Professional certification in project management (acceptable).
• Minimum five years of relevant experience, preferably in public‑sector or non‑profit programme management.
• Experience in social impact or programme management is required.
