Senior Product Designer (Fintech/Payments)

About the role

Our client is a technology company solving payments problems for businesses across Africa. They provide a suite of products that enable merchants to accept payments online and offline, manage operations, and grow. As a Senior Product Designer you will help create exceptional payment experiences that impact millions of African users.

Key responsibilities

• Design user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high‑fidelity interfaces for payment experiences, balancing user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
• Own designs through implementation, performing design QA and fixing issues directly in code.
• Prototype concepts using AI‑assisted tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Lovable, and gradually shift toward design engineering.
• Contribute to and evolve the Pax design system, ensuring consistency across products.
• Conduct usability tests and merchant interviews, applying insights to improve product decisions.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to frame problems, define success criteria, and turn ambiguous ideas into clear product directions.
• Participate in design critiques and learning sessions, sharing work early and sharpening collective taste.
• Use data, customer feedback, and product goals to evaluate outcomes and iterate on the experience.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience designing digital products with a portfolio that shows process and outcomes.
• Strong visual design fundamentals (typography, colour, layout, interaction).
• Proficiency in Figma and good judgment about fidelity levels.
• Experience designing for financial services, payments, or e‑commerce.
• Commitment to accessibility (colour contrast, hierarchy, inclusive design).
• Experience conducting user research and applying findings to design decisions.
• Genuine appetite for code and willingness to learn HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Exposure to AI‑code tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Lovable, v0) through personal experimentation.
