Vice President Legal & Compliance

About the role

The VP Legal and Compliance will provide strategic legal guidance, ensure compliance with laws, regulations and company policies, and manage legal risks across the organization. This senior leader will oversee the legal affairs of all entities in the group and advise the Board and senior management on legal and compliance matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direction to the Board and senior management on legal and compliance issues and ensure corporate governance standards are met.
• Oversee legal affairs of all group entities, develop corporate legal strategy and manage daily transaction processing, including drafting and reviewing contracts, letters and other legal documents.
• Manage external law firms and corporate secretarial service providers, ensuring efficient progress of disputes and compliance with statutory requirements.
• Develop and implement compliance management strategies, monitor implementation across departments and address potential breaches.
• Lead and develop a high‑performing legal and compliance team, fostering a culture of excellence.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) and Call to Bar Certificate from the Nigerian Law School.
• At least 12 years of post‑call legal/compliance experience, preferably in corporate/commercial law within the oil and gas sector.
• Proven experience in contract drafting, negotiation and managing litigation.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and leadership abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Use of legal research tools.
