Technical Assistant to Chief Operating Officer

About the role

Dangote Industries is looking for a Technical Assistant to its Chief Operating Officer, based at the Head Office in Lagos. The role provides high-level technical, operational and analytical support to the COO, Pan-Africa, in overseeing the performance, efficiency and continuous improvement of cement manufacturing operations across the Group's Pan-African businesses. It covers plant performance analysis, operational reporting, project monitoring and management reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and analytical support on cement manufacturing and plant operations, reviewing performance across quarrying, raw materials, kilns, clinker, grinding, packing and dispatch, and preparing technical briefs and recommendations.
• Monitor operational KPIs across Pan-African plants, consolidate periodic performance reports and highlight significant deviations.
• Support plant and country operational reviews: review presentations, identify issues and gaps, document decisions and actions, maintain an action tracker and follow up on implementation.
• Support monitoring of major CAPEX, plant optimisation, debottlenecking and improvement projects, track milestones and provide summaries of projects needing the COO's attention.
• Consolidate technical and operational data into management reports, build dashboards and trend analyses, and run root-cause and variance analyses.
• Coordinate with Plant Directors, Operations Directors and Technical Heads across Pan-Africa, facilitate technical exchanges and support cross-country alignment of priorities.
• Undertake technical studies, benchmarking and research, support due diligence and technical reviews, and take part in plant visits and assessments on behalf of the COO.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, process or industrial engineering or a related discipline; a postgraduate degree in Engineering, Operations Management or an MBA is an advantage.
• 10-15 years of relevant experience in cement manufacturing or a comparable heavy industrial environment.
• Hands-on exposure to cement plant operations, process optimisation, maintenance, production or engineering; multi-plant or multi-country experience is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting senior operations leadership or working in a corporate technical/operational excellence function is an advantage.

• Cement manufacturing process, process, cost and performance optimisation, and operational excellence methodologies.
• CAPEX and project monitoring, root-cause analysis, and data visualisation and performance dashboards.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, commercial and operational awareness, and ability to work across countries and cultures.
