Shift Leader, Cement Plant

About the role

HBM Nigeria is looking for a Shift Leader for its cement plant. The role is responsible for achieving the shift's budgeted clinker production target while keeping operations safe and reliable, maintaining consistent product quality, ensuring operational efficiency and managing costs in line with the Plant's annual objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and optimise the production line from quarry to packing plant and manage the plant day to day on a shift basis, setting priorities and directing the shift team.
• Enforce HBM Nigeria safety rules through Visible Felt Leadership and coordinate emergency response, including the Emergency Response Plan and evacuation plan.
• Coordinate the maintenance team on the night shift, call-outs, turnaround maintenance, root cause analysis and reliability activities, and monitor contractor performance.
• Control production to comply with group environmental standards, maintain good housekeeping and monitor process lines for equipment integrity and operating targets.
• Participate in planning plant stoppages, control re-bricking of the kiln during shutdowns and review shift records, output and quality.
• Guide and train subordinates, appraise them annually and recommend promotions, transfers or disciplinary actions; prepare and sign work orders, permits, overtime requests and other forms.
• Comply with the Environmental and Quality Management Systems and ISO 9001:2000 requirements, and record the daily production report and log sheet.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any engineering discipline.
• 3 to 5 years' experience as a Shift Manager or Production Coordinator in a cement plant.
• Ability to take initiative based on sound problem-solving skills.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of cement manufacturing processes.
• Good knowledge of product quality parameters and quality control tests.
• Good knowledge of computer-aided systems for kiln and mill operation.
