Senior Minigrid Engineer

About the role

Metikon is building out Nigeria's minigrid pipeline under the DARES programme, delivering clean, reliable power to underserved communities across Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Anambra and beyond. We are hiring a Minigrid Engineer to help design, model and deliver these systems at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design and size solar hybrid minigrid systems (PV, battery storage, distribution) across multiple sites.
• Prepare and manage project inputs on the Odyssey Energy Solutions platform, including site‑level CAPEX modelling.
• Support the DARES pipeline through feasibility studies, technical due diligence and grant‑compliance workflows.
• Conduct load assessments, energy yield modelling and system optimisation.
• Coordinate with field teams on installation, commissioning and performance monitoring.
• Contribute to bids, proposals and technical documentation for programme and institutional partners.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical, Power, Mechanical, Renewable Energy or related engineering discipline.
• COREN registration (mandatory).
• Hands‑on experience with solar minigrid or distributed energy design (PV + BESS).
• Familiarity with the Odyssey Energy platform or strong aptitude to learn it quickly.
• Working knowledge of Nigeria's rural electrification landscape (REA, NEP, DARES a strong plus).
• Proficiency in design/simulation tools (HOMER, PVsyst, or similar) and CAPEX/financial modelling.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and comfort managing multi‑site datasets.
• Willingness to travel to project sites.

Required skills

• Experience with donor‑funded or grant‑financed programme requirements.
• Exposure to grid intelligence, metering or PAYGO systems.
